Thank you to everyone who has written with support and encouragement following last weeks event in Switzerland.
The T-8th finish at 7-under par was an improvement over the previous events this year in Europe however it was a disappointing finish playing the final 6 holes in 2-over par and finishing 3 shots out.
As most of you know when I am in contention I do not watch the leaderboard, so it was not until I was packing my bag to catch the bus to Zurich airport, that I asked Tina how we finished. This is even though we were in the second to last group of the day. I find that looking at the leaderboard does not help me to become calmer playing so why look then.
Turns out it was quite an unusual finish with lots of players moving up and down the leaderboard.
If I was someone who watched the leaderboard and finished as I did it would be a lot tougher to swallow. As it is, because I am just focused on executing each individual shot one at a time, I know that I just did not hit good enough shots at the end or convert the putts to put myself in the lead.
Congrats to Tim Thelen who I played the final round with for the solid finish with birdies on the final 2 holes for the win.
It was also a wonderful week to have Tina fly over and spend time together. It was just like all the other good times when we would travel around the world playing and so relaxing when the rounds are over when we could enjoy the fantastic food offered and talk about anything and everything.
So now I am in Schwerin Germany for the WINSTONgolf Senior Open at the WINSTONgolf Links Course. It is a wonderful links design but without the waterfront. The course is very solid and the greens have a lot of slopes making it critical to hit the ball on the correct level to have any reasonable chance at a birdie.
The main attraction is Bernhard Langer playing the event. His management company conducts the event.
I only played with Bernhard once and it was in the 1983 New Zealand Open at Titarangi Golf Club near Auckland.
He was just on the cusp of a hall-of-fame career and a little more than a year away from winning The Masters.

We play a pro am for the first two rounds with one pro and one amateur making up a team. Therefore each foursome has 2 pros and 2 amateurs making up the group. I tee off at 10:30 Friday morning and will be playing the first two rounds with Chris Williams from South Africa who is the other professional in our group. Chris and I are good friends and try to have dinners together whenever possible while travelling. Chris also plays on the Legends Tour in Australia so we meet often in our travels.
I want to send out a special thanks to Orlaith who is the physiotherapist on the European Senior Tour for her great work in the last 3 days to help alleviate my back pain so that I can swing the club. I was in a real bad way since last week in Switzerland and unfortunately that is the one week Orlaith does not travel with us. So she has worked her magic here in Germany and taped me up so that I can play well.
Thanks again to everyone for your interest in my travels, progress and of course for writing or texting to me.
