This week we are playing the Willow Senior Golf Classic at Hanbury Manor in Ware, Hertfordshire, England.
This is a new event on the European Senior Tour and is working with the Willow Charity.
The Willow Charity is the only national charity working with seriously ill young adults aged 16 – 40 and across all life-threatening conditions such as cancer, motor neurone disease, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy and organ failure, to fulfill uplifting and unforgettable Special Days. These Special Days enable them and their families to reconnect and refocus on each other while enjoying an activity of their choosing. A day for them, a day about them and a day that will create the memories they will treasure forever.
For some their Special Day is the opportunity to return some normality to their lives. For others it is the last chance to fulfill a dream. But for all, a Special Day is a life-affirming experience that can lift spirits, reunify families and be a source of strength when it is needed most.
The event has a Pro-Am format each day and began on Wednesday. The professional will play some days with amateur partners in a team event and on other days with other professionals but not in any team event. All 3 rounds from Friday through Sunday count for the professional purse.
On Wednesday my amateur teammates were Trevor Marshall, Daniel Benjamin and Roscoe Atkins. We had a wonderful time and finished in 4th place, which was a wonderful result.
The Hanbury Manor course is a great design with excellent greens.
The recent run of warm weather has resulted in firm fairways and ball striking will be at a premium to keep the ball in play and out of the fescue.
